Full Marathon Assembly

Full Marathion Assembly is behind the start Arch on Uhuru Highway outside Nyayo Stadium Athletes will assemble in the following order.

1.    Wheelchair and tricycle athletes immediately behind the start line

2.    Full Marathon elite athletes behind the wheelchair assembly

3.    Full Marathon Assembly behind the elite athletes

Assembly for the marathon opens at from 06:30 am

  • 06:45 PA announcement to Wheelchair and Tricycle athletes. ‘5 minutes to go’

  • 06:55 PA announcement to Marathon athletes. ‘5 minutes to go’

Full Marathon Route

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon follows the route indicated on the route map (JV 26/03/2012). All turns and junctions for the Full Marathon Race are clearly signposted. Directional signs and Distance markers for the Full Marathon are coloured RED

It is important to note and follow the signs that will lead runners to the right or left hand lanes of the road on approach to junctions and turning points

The City loop

The first section of the Full Marathon route is a tour of the City of Nairobi (the City Loop) passing through Uhuru Highway, Uhuru Park, University Way Roundabout, Kenyatta Avenue, Harambee Avenue, Haile Selassie Rd. and back past the Nyayo Stadium.

 

P-T

The Mombasa Road Loop 1st passage

The Marathon route continues down the Mombasa Rd (the Mombasa Road loop) straight on past the half marathon turning point (Vitafoam) and, at Enterprise Rd, crossing over to one side of the dual carriageway, but still continuing straight on.

 

The turning point on the Mombasa Road for the Full marathon is on the approach to Airport North Road (City Cabanas). From the turning point Full marathon Runners return to Lusaka Rd Roundabout to start a second passage of the Mombasa road Loop.

 

U-W

The Mombasa Road Loop 2nd passage

The second passage of the Mombasa Rd loop is identical to the first

 

W-Y

On completion of the second Mombasa Road loop, at Lusaka Rd roundabout, full marathon athletes turn into Langata Rd on route to Nyayo Stadium.

Y-Z

The Full Marathon enters Nyayo Stadium through GATE 2 and circumnavigates the athletics track to finish opposite VIP dais in main stand.

 

Water, Medical and WC stations are sited at approximately 3 km intervals. They are clearly marked by signs placed at the station and signs placed 200m before the station

Note:

  • Tricycles: Tricycles follow the Full Marathon Route as described
  • Wheelchairs: The wheelchair race is 21 km long. Wheelchairs follow the route described for the Half Marathon

Marathon Route, Finish 28 10 2012 Marathon Finish Nyayo Stadium

Full Marathon Finish

The top 10 male and female runners will enter the Finish Funnel to have their positions confirmed. These athletes will be given a place number (with Lanyard to be worn round the neck) indicating their finishing position. Any of the top 10 may be pulled aside for ‘dope' testing.

All athletes outside the top 10 can by-pass the finish funnel and proceed directly to the exit of the stadium – to the water station and medal issue.

NOTES:

  1. PLEASE DO NOT HANG AROUND THE FINISH AND CAUSE CONGESTION IN THE FINISH FUNNEL.
  2. Finish times for all athletes are recorded automatically by the timing chip as each runner crosses the finish mat

Full Marathon Finishers Medal

In exchange for the perforated rip-off strip from your race number you will receive a Finishers Medal.
