2009 Event Information

Assembly and Start Times          

YOU SHOULD PLAN TO BE AT NYAYO STADIUM AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR ASSEMBLY TIME.

Note: Roads used for the marathon will be closed from 4:00 am. Please use the traffic diversions and follow the instructions of the Police. Traffic on the roads before 6:30 am is expected to be light.

Race Numbers

Your Race Number confirms you have entered the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon .Do not lose it. And do not let anyone else use it.  Imagine the anxiety caused to either sets of relatives if there is mis-identification in the case of a medical emergency. 

 Without the race number attached to your running vest, you will not be allowed to run your race.

 Please ensure you follow closely the instructions about how to attach the race number to your vest.

Race Numbers are colour coded as follows:

1.        Elite Marathon Runners will have a Red Sticker affixed to their race Numbers. (Elite Runners are those with recognised times in previous IAAF accredited marathons)

2.        Elite Half Marathon Runners will have a Blue Sticker affixed to their race Numbers.

3.        Elite 10 Km Runners will have a Green Sticker affixed to their race Numbers.

4.        21km Corporate Team Runners will have Yellow Sticker affixed to their race Numbers

PLEASE ENSURE

1.        YOU GUARD AND PROTECT YOUR RACE NUMBER. DO NOT BEND OR TEAR THE REMOVABLE STRIP FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE NUMBER

2.        YOU COMPLETE THE DETAILS AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR RACE NUMBER THE DAY BEFORE THE EVENT.

3.        YOU FIX PINS ONLY WHERE INDICATED ON THE NUMBER. DO NOT PIN THE TEAR OFF STRIP.

 

Assembly Areas

BEFORE THE START OF EACH RACE ALL RUNNERS MUST ASSEMBLE IN THEIR DESIGNATED ASSEMBLY AREAS. ASSEMBLY AREAS WILL BE CLEARLY DEMARCATED.

There are five Assembly Areas

After depositing your left luggage, you should proceed to your race’s Assembly Area. (NOT THE START LINE). All Assembly Areas will be signposted (please see centre spread map). If you get lost please ask an official or one of the information booths located inside the stadium grounds for help.

 Assembly for Elite Runners

The area at the front of each assembly area is reserved for runners with elite status. (Elite Runners are those with recognised times in previous IAAF accredited marathons and are identified by a sticker affixed to their race numbers)

Only those runners with stickers affixed to their numbers are allowed to enter the zone reserved within the assembly area for Elite Runner.

 Assembly Area for Corporate Challenge Competitors

Corporate challenge runners should assemble in the Half Marathon Elite Assembly Area. (Corporate challenge runners are identified by a yellow sticker affixed to their race numbers)

 
Start Lines

Full Marathon, Half marathon and 10km Race

The Start line for the Full Marathon, Half marathon and 10km Race is common. The start line is located on Uhuru Highway, the lanes inbound to the city, just before Bunyala Rd Roundabout.

 Family Fun Run

The Start line for the Family Fun Run is located on Masaba Road, in the parking area outside NIC bank, just before the T-junction joining Bunyala Rd.

 From Assembly Area to Start Line

 There will be a public address system local to each Assembly Area and Start line. You will be told how long there is to your start every 5 minutes from 30 minutes before your time.

Before the start of your race you will be asked to approach the Start Line. The approach to the start line will be led by the lead car for each race.

 Please follow instructions of the Officials, security guards and Police.

ATTEMPT TO GET IN FRONT OF THE LEAD CAR
