Welcome to the 11th Edition of Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon

Standard Chartered Bank is the proud Title Sponsor of the 11th Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, the largest athletic event held in Kenya since 2003. 

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon holds a special place in the Athletics Kenya calendar since inception as the first major marathon attracting thousands of participants. The event has become the signature annual sports event and social event that brings together runners and supporters from all over the country as well as foreign participants to Nairobi, the beautiful capital city of Kenya and home of the greatest distance runners in the world.

From humble beginnings back in 2003 with 4,000 participants to current participation of 20,000 participants, the marathon has marked major milestones fully achieving its objectives as set on the onset. These are:

• identify and provide new opportunities for Kenyan athletic talent;
• raise money to support Seeing is Believing, a Standard Chartered Bank initiative aimed at combating preventable blindness;
• raise international profile of Kenya;
• help boost Kenya’s tourism sector and
• create a fun event for everyone’s enjoyment

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is the only athletics event in Kenya featuring on the International Association of Athletics Federations’ (IAAF) calendar alongside other great marathons like Boston, New York, London, Beijing among others. Upcoming Kenyan runners have found a platform to launch their athletics careers in an international marathon on their home soil. Others have found the marathon a perfect opportunity to showcase their potential and move on to participate in  international meets.

Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is part of nine marathons sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank across the world- Mumbai, Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Hongkong, Jersey, Falkland Islands and Kuala Lumpur. These combined is over 300,000 passionate runners, each with a unique story and experience.
