Message from Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon Chairman

Reuben Mbindu

Dear Runners,

Welcome to the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon 20111.

Standard Chartered Bank is proud to once again sponsor the ninth edition of the Marathon on Sunday 30th October 2011. The continued sponsorship of this iconic sporting event is a demonstration of the bank’s’ commitment to the communities where we do our business and an affirmation of the brand promise ‘Here for good”.  This is especially for the 2011 edition when the bank celebrates its 100 years of existence in Kenya.

Thank you for being one of our valiant supporters of this event which has become the greatest professional and social running event of the year bringing together runners , supporters , staff , corporates and the community.  We are delighted to note that more and more participants are coming forward to support this event. Like many other big marathons, Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is a charity fundraising event. Our marathon raises monies for Seeing is Believing, a Standard Chartered Bank initiative for eradicating avoidable blindness in children under the age of nine years. Through your efforts in the 2010 Marathon, over 800 children have had their sight restored. In 2011 we expect to do even better. All proceeds from the marathon registration will go towards supporting Seeing is Believing projects across Kenya.

The information provided in this Runners’ Guide will help you prepare for your participation on the Race Day. Please go through the guide carefully and keep in mind the important notices and times for various functions. Be considerate of other runners during the race and follow instructions given by the race officials.

Once again, we offer you our sincerest congratulations on your participation in the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.

Looking forward to welcoming you all at the start of the ninth edition of the Marathon.

Have a great race!

Reuben Mbindu
Chairman, Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon Organizing Committee
